LEEP Recycling And Waste Aware Business Win Best Partnership Award
LEEP Recycling (part of the Edinburgh-based sustainable development organisation Changeworks) and Waste Aware Business have won the Best Partnership Award at the ‘Eventful Scotland’ Waste Management Industry Awards 2006, which were held at the Hilton Hotel, Glasgow on 4 October.
The award recognised the work of the WRAP (the Waste & Resources Action Programme) -funded ‘Our Boxes Mean Business’ campaign, which encourages small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to recycle at work.
The campaign was part of a wider WRAP feasibility study looking at encouraging SMEs to start recycling. It aimed to sign up 180 new businesses to LEEP Recycling’s business recycling services over a period of six months, and to establish a good practice route for recycling organisations across the UK to market effectively their services to SMEs.
In partnership with Waste Aware Business and WRAP, LEEP Recycling developed a sales and marketing campaign to overcome the perceived barriers to recycling business waste. Based around three simple messages - that recycling at work is easy, convenient and cost effective - the campaign was launched at the end of March 2006.
Two hundred and sixty businesses have now signed up to LEEP Recycling’s business recycling services, which means an estimated 600 tonnes of waste have been diverted from landfill.
Commenting on the award, Ken McLean, General Manager of LEEP Recycling said: “We are absolutely delighted that LEEP Recycling’s business recycling services have been recognised by Eventful Scotland. By working in partnership with WRAP and Waste Aware Business we have shown that there is real commitment amongst SMEs to engage with a well designed recycling service that’s responsive to their needs.”
Fiona Johnston, Waste Aware Business Campaigns Officer, added: "We would like to congratulate LEEP Recycling on their award and look forward to continued partnership working with them in the future, building on the success of the 'Our Boxes Mean Business' campaign."
