Dumbiedykes Environment Group Launches Campaign To Cut Householders’ Fuel Bills
Photocall
The campaign will be launched at the Braidwood Centre, 69 Dumbiedykes Road at 10am on Thursday 26 October. Representatives from Dumbiedykes Environmental Group, Warmburgh Advice Team, City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Hydro Electric will be present with a state-of-the-art energy efficient fridge and low energy lightbulbs.
Campaign To Cut Household Fuel Bills
To coincide with national Energy Efficiency Week, Dumbiedykes Environmental Group is launching a local energy campaign to try to cut household bills by up to £500 per year.
With the average energy bill for a three bedroom home around £1,000 per year, local volunteers will be leading the campaign to help residents save up to £270 per year through fuel billing advice. The volunteers are supported by a team of Warmburgh Energy Advisers who will provide free, impartial advice to local residents by running a series of surgeries in the area throughout November.
Anyone who contacts the Warmburgh Advice Team as a result of the campaign will get free energy saving light bulbs that will save residents around £10 per year each, plus personalised advice that could help residents save up to a further £200 per year.
Best of all, residents who take part in the campaign could win an energy efficient fridge, which has been donated to the Warmburgh Advice Team by Scottish Hydro Electric in support of the campaign.
Gordon Clark, Chairperson of the Dumbiedykes Environmental Group, said: “Everybody has been feeling the pain of high energy prices. It’s especially tough for people on fixed incomes and we want to do everything we can to keep bills down in those households.
“Using less energy is the best way to save money – and it’s best for the environment too. That doesn’t mean being cold though; it’s about making sure you don’t waste energy – or money."
Russell Ogg, Energy Efficiency Team Manager at Scottish Hydro Electric, which donated the prize of an ultra-low energy fridge, said: “It’s great to be able to support the good work going on here this week; using energy efficiently is the best way to keep bills down and to do your bit for the environment at the same time.”
