Watt’s the difference?
A bright idea – the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre challenges Livingston shoppers to ‘see the light’.
Energy Saving Scotland invites shoppers at The Centre, Livingston to challenge the concept that low energy light bulbs are a dim idea.
A recent survey south of the border showed that the majority of people were unable to tell the difference between the light from an energy saving light bulb and a traditional one, but are Scots more canny?
The Energy Saving Scotland advice centre intends to find out. On November 15 we are bringing the Great Light Bulb Challenge to The Centre in Livingston: two booths one lit with a traditional bulb and one with a low energy equivalent, but which is which? Expert energy advisors will be on hand to answer any questions and to record the results of the challenge. Each participant will receive two free low energy light bulbs as a thank you for taking part and to allow them to start saving money as soon as they get home.
Chris Morris, advice centre manager said: “The public has had a light bulb moment! They suddenly see that they can save money and help the environment without compromising the look and feel of their homes. If everyone in Scotland switched to low energy light bulbs we could save almost £110 million a year collectively. This would save enough electricity to power 250,000 homes in Scotland every year. If everyone in West Lothian made the switch the saving would be over £3 million and enough electricity to power 7,500 homes annually.”
Jennifer Bruce, marketing manager at The Centre said: “I am delighted to host this event in Livingston, our shoppers are very switched on to environmental issues and it will be great to see if they tell the difference and better the results from shoppers south of the border.”
