New householders support service

Moving into a new home is stressful enough without having to deal with energy suppliers and a new heating system. That’s where Changeworks’ education and prevention service comes in.

Whether a first tenancy or first home ownership, we can provide householders the knowledge and tools to manage their energy system and usage. Through tools such as an energy diary and an information library – online and in print – Changeworks can offer a range of tips, tricks and helpful advice around the home that can lead to long term good habits and significant savings on energy bills.

As well as energy saving tips, information on how to read a meter and carbon monoxide safety, we can make householders aware of the types of financial support that is available to them and how to access it.

Designed alongside householders and housing association staff, this service empowers householders to become more energy confident and help prevent an avoidable fall into fuel poverty. With many energy problems starting on day one of moving into a new home, we can give householders the knowledge to understand their heating system and how to cut through the jargon when dealing with their energy supplier. These skills will allow them to cut their energy usage and save money.

If we want to achieve our goal – decarbonising Scotland’s homes – then tackling fuel poverty and giving householders the knowledge and tools they need to manage their heating systems more efficiently is the first step.
