Engagement and Assessment

The first stage of your retrofit starts with our team understanding your home and energy efficiency goals.

At EcoCosi, we believe that all successful journeys start with a plan.

That’s especially true for a retrofit journey. The better the plan, the better the retrofit. That’s why we place so much importance on our initial Home Survey, which allows us to build your bespoke Whole Home Plan.

You can find out more about both the initial Home Survey and Whole Home Plan below.

Home Survey

One of our Retrofit Assessors will visit your home to conduct a whole-home survey.

After your home’s area and volume are mapped, the assessor will carry out an in-depth survey of the building fabric and heating system. This helps them gain a detailed understanding of your home, including its current level of energy efficiency.

We’ll also set up a detailed consultation session with a Retrofit Coordinator. Here, you can talk through your retrofit needs and aspirations, so that we can understand exactly what you want to achieve by the end of your retrofit journey.

Whole Home Plan

Now that we understand your home’s starting point, as well as where you want to get to, we can start planning the journey. To do this, we’ll use the information gathered from the Home Survey to create a Whole Home Plan.

Back at our office, your retrofit coordinator will use computer software to model your home’s energy consumption. This lets us test out the effect of different energy efficiency measures.

Not only can we see which measures will be most effective, it also helps us to spot any potentially negative consequences. These can then be addressed at the outset, rather than causing issues further down the line, when they will be more costly to fix.

The plan outlines all possible energy efficiency upgrades for your home. To help you narrow your choices, it also highlights which measures will yield the biggest improvements to your home’s energy efficiency. This can be helpful when you’re deciding what work you would like to progress with.

Engagement and assessment FAQs

The Home Survey and Whole Home Plan costs £800 – £1,500 + VAT.

The exact cost will vary depending on the size and complexity of your property.

The Whole Home Plan is much more in-depth and tailored to your home than an EPC (Energy Performance Certificate). An EPC uses a Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) to make recommendations. This type of assessment looks at your heating and insulation, but doesn’t take an holistic view of your home.

As a result, following the recommendations on your EPC means you might not get the best possible results for your home. Potential problems include:

  • Inadequate heating in certain parts of the home
  • Mould and excess moisture due to lack of proper ventilation
  • Technologies performing less efficiently than expected

Our Whole Home Plan is based on an in-depth home assessment and computer modelling. This produces a Whole Home Plan which shows you how to achieve the best energy efficiency for your home, whilst avoiding common retrofit pitfalls.

We’d love to support you on the rest of your retrofit journey, but you’re under no obligation to continue with us once we deliver your Whole Home Plan. It’s up to you to choose what you’d like to do with the information we’ve provided. You might decide to take on the retrofit project yourself, or that you don’t wish to carry out any work right now.

If you do decide to go ahead with a retrofit, then you can follow as much or as little of the plan as you like. Whilst the recommendations show everything you can do to make your home as energy efficient as possible, it might not be feasible to do all of them. For that reason, the plan also shows you which measures will make the biggest positive difference. These are the ones we would recommend going ahead with.
